Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level

A much better approach to A Level examinations

At KIMS courses of O and A Levels are each completed in two years. In A- Level, AS Level is also offered in which first year is called AS Level and the second year is called A-II Level. In both cases the final Examination is given by Cambridge Board in May/June each year whereas students opting for A-II Level will be taking their final examination altogether after two years in May/June.
By having your ward for A Level education of Cambridge International Examination (CIE) you might have learnt by now that for last few years through a revised programme CIE is offering the facility to the candidates in completing A Level in two parts of one year each. Both the years have their comprehensive separate examinations. This programme includes taking AS (Advanced Subsidiary) Level examination after one year and has been tested and confirmed to be highly useful and beneficial for the candidates on the following reasons:

  1. The whole course of A Level is bifurcated into two separate years, each year candidates appearing for the board examination exactly in the same old fashion as to the other details and discipline. This clearly divides and lessens the burden of studies giving a huge possibility to the candidates to perform better comparatively.
  2. The candidates would be able to plan in a more balanced and smart manner for the two years. Also, after one year they would get their result helping them and their teachers to plan for the second year for still better results. In short they would remain involved in their studies for both the years in more evenly manner.
  3. Candidates wanting to improve their grades secured in the first year would be able to do so in the second year. This means that this extra effort too could be accomplished within two years.
  4. The second year result would be combined with that of the first year thereby providing an inbuilt possibility to the candidate of improving grades. This is going to benefit those who would do better in the second year examination.
  5. Separate certificates would be issued to the candidates for the first and the second year. This again would help them a great deal when applying for higher education. However, the final certificate, after the completion of A Level, shall exhibit both AS and A Level results.
We at KIMS, after having carefully observed the experience of the past few years and having confirmed the relief it brings to the candidates and the parents in producing better results and after having more than assured ourselves that our full time, highly capable faculty is fully competent to take up the new challenge, had confidently introduced the AS Level in August/September 2005.
